Sexual Wellbeing After Menopause: World Menopause Day 2018
Thursday 18th October marks World Menopause Day 2018, with the theme of this year’s event Sexual Wellbeing After Menopause.
This issue has traditionally been treated as a taboo, but there is no reason why it should be, as millions of women across the globe are going through the menopause at any one time.
Menopause symptoms can leave you feeling tired, irritable, lacking in energy, experiencing month-long PMS and feeling sore down below due to vaginal dryness. When you’re getting these symptoms all at once, it’s likely that sex is the last thing on your mind.
At the same time, your once-luscious locks could be thinning and becoming more brittle, and wrinkles may be appearing more prominently, leaving you feeling a long way from your old self and lacking confidence in the bedroom.
These changes to your body and the way you feel are natural as you approach your 50s, but this doesn’t mean you have to put up with them.
When your body’s oestrogen levels decline, the walls of your vagina can start to thin, causing dryness and soreness; collagen production is affected, impacting your skin and hair; and your moods can be all over the place due to a hormonal imbalance.
This can have a knock-on effect on how you feel about yourself and your relationship with your partner, affecting your sexual wellbeing.
But you can take steps to reignite that spark and feel like the best version of yourself again.
Talking to your partner or someone else you can confide in about how you’re feeling can be a huge help, as can taking time to concentrate on yourself to build your confidence back up.
Finding a way to manage menopause symptoms that fits easily into your life is also important; you can find menopause supplements to help with everything from hot flushes and night sweats to mood swings and vaginal dryness, allowing you to enhance your wellbeing, across every aspect of your life, not just in the bedroom.
